The Rosary as Companion to the Twelve Steps

For Christians, and also non-Christians seeking a connection to the divine mother, the rosary can be an invaluable companion to the Twelve Steps program.

Just as there is not only one path into addiction, there are also multiple ways to break the cycle.

For many, the Twelve Steps is an effective program of recovery, from the steps and traditions themselves to the recovery community and peer support mentality.

The Twelve Steps is a non-denominational spiritual path for recovery.

God, or Higher Power, is central to this ethos, but without aligning with any particular set of religious beliefs.

For Christians, and also non-Christians seeking a connection to the divine mother, the rosary can be an invaluable companion to the Twelve Steps program.

Alongside the stories of addiction and recovery we hear in Twelve Steps meetings, the rosary offers another set of narratives that we in recovery can meditate and reflect on.

Praying the rosary itself can provide guidance and structure to support the Eleventh Step work of "prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God".

Meditating on the mysteries of the rosary can be a companion to Second Step work, exploring the "Power greater than ourselves [that] could restore us to sanity".

The rosary can also support our Third Step work, as we "turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him."
