How to Pray the Rosary for Addiction Recovery

We can adapt the rosary's structure of repetitive prayer to enhance the power of meditation for those of us walking the path of addiction recovery.

The power of praying the rosary comes in part from deeper meditation achieved through repetitive prayers.

Praying the rosary, like prayer beads of other spiritual traditions, involves saying designated prayers on and alongside the rosary beads themselves.

We can adapt this structure of prayer to enhance the power of meditation for those of us walking the path of addiction recovery.

We begin with the Sign of the Cross and the Serenity Prayer.

We then pray the Our Father, three Hail Mary prayers, and the Glory Be for the first rosary beads.

For each of the five decades of the rosary, we begin by saying the name of the rosary mystery and then meditate on that mystery's narrative and spiritual fruits for addiction recovery.

We then pray the Our Father, 10 Hail Mary prayers, the Glory Be, and the Serenity Prayer, repeated for each of the five decades of the rosary.

On the final decorative rosary bead, we pray the Hail Holy Queen and Memorare to pray for Mary's intercession for our recovery.

We then complete our rosary with the Serenity Prayer and Sign of the Cross.
